Who we are
We are Groot! No, we are Kestrel, a hypothetical gastropub and brewery that might open one day in San Diego if the stars align and we work hard enough to make it happen. Our website address is: http://kestrel.beer. We’d say come visit us, but we don’t actually exist at the moment except on the internet and in one crazy guy’s head.
Look, we hope to be a restaurant and brewery. We have no interest in trafficking in people’s data. The time and effort it would take to do so would hardly be worth the piddly little sum it would bring in. So, other than our mailing lists, we try really hard to not actually have any information about our customers. That being said, we are not IT specialists. We pay for web hosting with an outside company, we use social media because this is the 21st century and that’s how stuff gets done, we pay for a platform to manage our email list, … if something goes pear shaped and one of our vendors screws the data pooch, we would like to join you in trying to hold them responsible. If we inadvertently have some procedure you notice is not cool, please let us know and we will try our hardest to fix it as much as its within our ability to do so. Thanks.
A lot of the rest of this is boilerplate that came with the site. You’ll probably be able to spot the stuff we’ve added, so if that’s you’re jam, read on.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
We will always ask permission to use our customers’ images. We have no money, and as much as we’d like to offer beer as compensation, that’s against the law. The best you can hope for is a cap or a t-shirt. Sorry.
Contact forms
If you add your info to our contact form, you will be consenting to be contacted. That’s just common sense. There will be an unsubscribe link in any email we send you. If you are seeing too much of our stuff on social media, please let us know.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Sometimes we make cookies at the restaurant. They’re really good. You should try to be there when we do. This has nothing to do with privacy, it’s a shameless reminder that we are a restaurant you should come eat here. You can eat, drink, and read a privacy policy all at the same time!
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
Who we share your data with
Nobody. It’s just not worth it.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service, so don’t be a weenie.
Your contact information
If you sign up for our mailing list or like us on social media, we will have access to whatever info you provide. All of our email correspondence will have an unsubscribe link. Please feel free to use it. We’d rather not be annoying.
